At Total Tuition Alternative Provision and Rosewood Independent School, we allow students the opportunity to learn outdoors as much as possible. This approach to learning can help children develop knowledge, skills and understanding so they can develop academic, physical, and artistic skills.
This approach to learning can offer children a holistic set of values that prepares them for life in the modern world in a diverse and ever-changing community.
It can surround the children in beneficial behaviours which they need to succeed in the world such as resilience, empathy, a love of learning, independence, aspiration, self-belief, happiness and kindness.
We have two staff on our team who have or are working towards Level 3 Forest School Lead qualifications. Our Forest School Lead has experience teaching children in the wilderness of the Australian Outback!
In our current YMCA (Ashington) site, we have a small garden which our younger children have access to on a timetabled basis. We utilise this space as timetables allow, and a child-led approach to learning is delivered in this setting.
Our new Stannington site is due to open later this academic year, and the whole school has been established with a Forest School and Outdoor Learning focus. The site has a lovely large garden with space for growing plants and vegetables, and also has a custom outdoor classroom for use in all weathers. We are very excited to welcome our younger students to the new site in the coming term.
